Government Asks Food Companies to Help With Obesity
At the Future of Food conference held by the Grocery Manufacturers Association, U.S. government officials urged producers to help with America’s obesity problem. They appealed to every company’s heart: the bottom line. Sell less food at a higher price, urged Dr. William Dietz of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to be successful.
The government needs to get serious about this issue, and this is a small start. They still won’t urge people to eat less beef, since that lobby is a powerful force in Washington. They won’t ban partially hydrogenated fats and high fructose corn syrup, both of which are demonstrably harming the American population and benefitting the corporations that use them.
