USDA Reveals Subsidies. To whom?

The USDA has released a large list of farm subsidy recipients, according to this news release at St. Paul Pioneer Press. The disclosure comes as part of the 2002 Farm Bill, but the Environmental Working Group argues that the new information is only a good first step. The list excludes co-operatives, even though they receive a large chunk of the money that American taxpayers put into federal coffers. The new report also fails to mention how much money each farm received.

Still, it seems like it would be good information, don’t you think? You know, that whole transparency-is-good thing? Good luck finding that report, and let me know if you do. I did discover that the Environmental Working Group already runs a subsidy database, and it will add the new information as best it can.

I found this via Google searching for:

Micky,

Thanks, but I think that’s just the EWG’s current database, isn’t it? I was hoping to find the most recent updates from the USDA (which are working their way into the EWG database).
