Organic Baby Food Sales on the Rise
In 2005, sales of organic food in the US nearly topped $14 billion, and it shows no signs of stopping now. In an effort to get their kids off to the right start from the beginning, more and more parents are going organic when feeding their babies.
Mandi Kelly, Marketing Coordinator for Wild Oats says that one of the reasons for the surge in organic baby food sales is that the food is free from genetically modified ingredients. “That’s probably the main reason people transition from conventional foods to organic. It’s the children in the family because the parents become more aware of what they’re feeding themselves and what they’re feeding their children.”
As with all organic items, the organic baby food does cost a little bit more as compared to its counterparts, but it’s still within reason. Retailers like Wild Oats and Whole Foods will generally carry the best selection, but don’t rule out your local grocery store. And lastly, when shopping, don’t forget to look for the USDA organic symbol to make sure the product is truly organic.
