Shopping Organic
A recent issue of Consumer Reports put together a list of items to make the most of your organic dollars. “The list includes produce that is worth buying organic because the conventionally grown versions tend to retain a lot of pesticides, even after scrubbing. Beef and chicken are on the list because organics cut down on potential toxins found in the feed of nonorganic animals. Seafood isn’t on the list because the federal government does not yet have organic-certification standards for fish and shellfish. Finally, there’s baby food because it’s often made of condensed fruits and veggies, potentially concentrating chemical residues in small developing bodies.”
