Earthbound Farm Cookbook
Well, it’s not really an Earthbound Farm cookbook because publishers wanted a personality to attach to the cookbook instead of corporation. Brenda Moore of the Monterey Herald interviewed the personality they picked: Myra Goodman. She originally pitched the idea of a cookbook focused on Earthbound Farm, which she founded with her husband, and its organic food. She named the cookbook Food to Live By.
After fretting about whether she was qualified to write a cookbook, Goodman jumped in with both feet. Her philosophy in the kitchen includes “good food, speed, simplicity and use of a limited number of pots and pans.” Paired with its focus on organic ingredients, but an understanding that they aren’t always available, this sounds like the makings for a great cookbook.
According to the Earthbound Farm website, Earthbound Farm is “synonymous with premium quality, the deepest and richest taste, conscientious farming, and optimum health.” To support those goals, the recipes are intended to be made with the best organic food has to offer. Some sample recipes include Sweet Corn Chowder, Merlot-Braised Short Ribs with Cipollini Onions, Ginger Lime Salmon, Cherry Panna Cotta, and Farm Stand Carrot Cake. It includes 250 recipes, full-color photos, shopping tips, prep ntoies, and serving ideas. It also includes:
Myra’s own fascinating family stories, from the birth of Earthbound Farm and the opening of the Farm Stand and Organic Kitchen, to her thoughts about personal food choices and the way even small changes can make a big difference.
So, when you see this book in the store, you will notice the tiny little Earthbound Farm logo in the lower right and you’ll say: “hey, that’s the Earthbound Farm cookbook!” To learn more about Earthbound Farm and how Goodman and her husband founded it with no farming experience and grew it into the largest grower and shipper of organic produce in North America, check out the full article here.
