Safeway Expands O Organics Line

Organics

Some people without a Safeway grocery store may be getting access to its wonderful line of organic products called O Organics. Market Watch informs us that Safeway is “striking partnerships to sell its “O Organics” line in Asia and South America” due to a deal with distributing giant Sysco Corp. The line was introduced in 2006 and is sold exclusively in Safeway stores in the U.S. and western Canada. There are now “300 items, including milk, chicken, food entrée and juice products.”

I think the best news from this article is that people are buying more organic food. In 2007, sales were estimated to reach $300 million in 2007, which is up from $164 million in 2006. Overall, “U.S. organic foods sales rose 20.9% to $16.7 billion in 2006, and could reach $20 billion this year, according to the Organic Trade Association.”

Safeway started its organic line to fight competition from Whole Foods Market. The closest Whole Foods to me is about 40 minutes away, so I am personally happy that Safeway is expanding its organic line, since it means more organic options for me!

The O’ Organics brand/line is already being sold in Asia–at Carrefour and Marketplace by Jason’s stores in Taipei, Tawian. You can read a couple stories about the development at www.naturalspecialtyfoodsmemo.blogspot.com.

There are also pictures of the O’ Organics sets at the Carrefour store on the blog.

I purchased some O Organics Black Beans awhile ago and didn’t notice at the time that stamped on the top of the can is “PRODUCT OF CHINA”. I will NEVER shop at Safeway again and I don’t trust any products anymore. Thanks for selling out our lovely country!!!

Same with me. After opening a can I failed to look on the bottom of the can where it was stamped ” made in China” Yeah right!, organics from toxic China! Safeway is not so safe.

Type your comment here.Since rthe makeover ot the store in Newport,Wa. I have going in just to see the cahanges. What I see is not good, my friends and I have decided to shop elsewhere do to the raise in cost, the low quality in merchandise and so many items that are no longer on your shelfs. We are now going to shop once a week in the van, making a day of it in Spokane with lunch and gas it is cheaper then shopping in Newport, save money and have luch with friends what a deal.
Also I have accumilated $58.58 in gas discount and it expires on the 23rd of March, that is crab, I have earned it, it should for me when I want it, not when you dicide it is over, as you know, I have spent a lot of money in the store to have that much in gas discount coming, well I will fill up my tank once and you can have the rest, but my business is also going away from your store.
Sorry to say that safeway will no longer be my place to shop. I will drive 50 miles with my friends to buy what I need insteadt of3/4 of a mile.
Thankyou for nothing.

I just noticed that these are product of China.
1) Toxic beans?
2) Any lead paint in my can?
3) Come on, shipping beans all the way from China? What are the environmental costs?
