Jen Boulden’s Quick Tips on Going Green
The phrase “do one thing” has been swirling around for ages. When it comes to make a big life-altering change, such as “going green” or a big diet overhaul, sometimes it’s better to do it in baby steps. Change one thing at a time and a) the whole idea will seem much more manageable and b) you’re more likely to stick to it.
In a recent issue of Domino magazine, Jen Boulden, founder of IdealBite.com, shared her top 3 quick fixes on being more environmentally friendly:
Avoid parabens. These synthetic preservatives - found in moisturizers, makeup and even shampoo - interfere with hormone production, potentially leading to weight gain, cancer and other serious health risks.
Go veggie - one day a week. Meat production is so resource-intensive, if 10,000 people gave up steak once every seven days, it’d conserve enough water to annually fill up 22,719 Olympic-size swimming pools.
Take back the tap. In 2006, Americans trashed over 22 billion plastic water bottles. Massive amounts of fossil fuel are wasted producing these bottles, which can take thousands of years to break down in landfill. Ditch the bottle and help save 1.5 million tons of plastic each year.
