GroundScape, a New Mulch Alternative
When it comes to being environmentally aware, I’m the first to admit that I hadn’t much thought of it in terms of my gardening. I mean, really, how more environmentally friendly can the actual act of gardening and growing as local as your own backyard really get, right? The thought of a more “green” mulch never entered my mind. Until I read a recent write-up on a new kind of mulch.
GroundScape may look like mulch, but in reality, it’s made from shredded rubber tires. With the five different colors available, your landscaping can be quite the kaleidoscope, if you want it to be. I’d stick with the more natural colors myself, but that’s just me. That being said though, think outside the box a bit. While the blue-hued faux mulch may look a tad odd in your front yard’s flower bed, wouldn’t it be great underneath your child’s swingset? It is a great soft landing for kids as they fly off the swings, and because it’s a bit weightier than more traditional mulch, it has more staying power when a storm sweeps in.
GroundScape sells for $17 per 1.6 cubic foot and can be purchased from lawn and garden centers.
