Green Outings
Spring break is right around the corner for many students, teachers, and parents. Many have yet to plan their trip. Are you in that category? I know I am. So as time begins to tick away, let me toss out some ideas to think about when going green during your next vacation
-
Stay close to home: Take advantage of what the cities and towns around you have to offer. For many of us, there are a good number of museums and galleries, parks, sporting events, and/or restaurants within00-150 miles of home.
-
Before leaving home for more than a couple of days, unplug appliances to save energy. Turn off your thermostat.
-
Travel with several water bottles; this way you won’t have to buy bottles of water along the way.
-
Avoid Styrofoam cups/containers and carry-out. If at a restaurant, avoid “end of season” foods items on the endangered list. Eat local items.
-
Like outdoor activities? Choose endeavors that do not threaten the environment, like motor watersports.
-
Stay in a green hotel. While staying in a hotel, don’t wash your towels every day. And save complimentary shampoo to use/reuse.
